The setup for the game isn't just going to be CoH with new paint job is it? The character creation sounds different but if we just run around and do missions for contacts and have buildings and city areas that just mirror Paragon City then count me out. So far that city in Detroit sounds cool but inst there a city in Paragon that was built as sort of a defiance to a villian or rebuilt after some big attack? When I was looking at the screenshots they just look like touched up (slightly) COH style graphics. I hope the way the powers work isn't the same.

I know what you mean about it looking like a revamped CoH. One of those screenshots looks a lot like Kings Row, but I think that it only looks that way because that's the kind of tech they've developed.
I seriously doubt that this game will be anything like CoX save for a few similarities that are to be expected from the team that developed the game in the first place.
They've had nearly four years of feedback from CoX players and as such, I think they know exactly the kind of game they're going to make.
Every one of the game features we've heard about so far have been taken directly from the forums over at CoX. Especially customizable powers and the Arch-nemesis system.
Jack is shooting for the game that CoX SHOULD have been, I believe, and here's hoping he pulls it off!

What kind of powers will we have acess to? I was kinda thinking of making a demonic hero who uses two swords for melee, two guns for ranged and then has some actual super powers. He's basically a demonic mercenary who has some abilities of his own but also fell in love with human technology and weapons as well. He's probably also influenced by human culture. He watches TV and things like American Idol, Lost. Might make quips about "DIE FASTER ALREADY! I'm missing American Idol!"

From the sounds of things, you could quite easily do that. If you want the "actual powers" to be ranged ones, then maybe go for the blaster-type archtype, pick up one blast and define it as guns firing, one as some sort of demonic fireball, and a sword power from the melee-type archtype. the beauty is that you can pick skills from any archtype, they just cost more if they aren't from your natural one, so by taking those swords you pass up on three extra blast-type powers.

Rather than giving up power picks, I think it's a matter of having allocating a pool of points to you power picks. From the bits and pieced I've picked up, its sounds the power creation is going to similar to Hero System and the orginal alpha incarnation of City of Heros.
Say I want a ranged attack, it will do X damage type (Lethal Damage), it's special effect will be a fire arm Piistols) and it will cost 1 pts per power level (i.e. damage dice) since I'm a Ranged Class. And I want a Ranged attack, damage type of X (Lethal) and an Area of Effect special effects is a hang grenade, and the cost will be 2 pts per level since I'm a Ranged Class. Next I pick a melee attack, it's damage type will be Y (fire), it's special effect will be a a flaming sword, and it's cost is 2 pts per power level (since I'm a ranged. And I'll need some protection, So I'm going get a Force Field power, special affects will be a flaming aura, and it's cost will be (ugh!) 3 pts per power level since I'm a Ranged Class. And since I've only got 50 pts to spend, do I put a lot into my Force Field early on and bump my attack when I got more points? Or do I max out my pistol attacks, get good on my Force Field and just the minimum on my Sword attack?

Sounds about right, but I think points initially will be more limited, and cross class points may be even more costly. It will be interesting to see the how they weave the power building/selection process into the leveling up process.
