Here's something that City of Heroes has failed to bring in three long years of content.
WALKING!!
Why Walking?
For a Role-Playing environment, walking removes the sense of urgency that always feels present in City of Heroes characters who can do nothing but jog, run, fly, or leap. In a showdown between enemies, walking can produce a sense of dread or tension, as a climactic showdown inches closer to reality. Walking would also be great for cutscenes, amongst other things. Running every time you decide to move just feels... awkward.
Walking may not come across as the most "super" way to get around, but it can signify many things in the comic book genre.
For example, when have you honestly seen Dr. Doom do anything but walk or hover to his destination? He's so powerful, he doesn't feel a need to rush. And Barbarians? They don't run, they walk briskly! :D
Rumor has it you can alter the basic movement animation of your character, but let's not forget that, maybe sometimes, our characters would like to SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWN.
Until we feel like giving Mother Nature a kick in the face.

The analog controlls on the 360 controller make walking likely.

i understand where your coming from on this but walking is just so slow sure we do it, but think about how long it take you to walk across atlas park. most ppl would log before they got a quarter the way across the map. i believe what you were taking about would be a walk toggle. and with the cutscene thing wouldnt it be cool if when your got to your arch-nemesis if you had a cut scene start up where <like all bad guys do> they start to dialog and then the fight start, yea that would take forever to program so it came up different everytime but man that would be BA, of if your in a group and you get to the bad guy or your arch-nemesis that everyones arch-nemesis interacted with eachother to create a better plot against all man kind, then have those nemesis attack your guy every once and while just to change it up.

I agree whale. If I'm having a meeting with someone, or just a polite discussion, I don't want to be constantly
dashing about as if I'm mad.

I am sorry to inform you that Walking is being held back for Pedestrians Online where you can choose to be a Sidewalkeer or a Jay Walker with both rick and reward for either path...

From what I have gathered there's supposed to be a fair amount of Secret ID and Investigative stuff in game. Or perhaps I dreamed that.
BUT
If that is the case then walking makes perfect sense. Besides look at all the other games. From what I recall of my forays outside Paragon City practically everybody walks until they CHOOSE to run.

Walking is nothing new to MMOs or adventure games, it's usually used to walk across ledges or bridges and keep from falling into liquid hot magma.
Although devs tend to install training wheels nowadays to make it impossible to fall off ledges for people who think walking is slow and ridiculous.

I think walking IS in CoH...and the other MMO games already. I believe you can toggle it off and on. (?) At least, I am 80% sure it is, unless I am wrong on that, but I know I have walked....
...and shortly after, like most folks, I RUN. Not because it fits my character, because after awhile of "walking", you get sick of how slow you are and just toggle on RUN. ;p
Mind you, there are perfect times to walk, especially in RP situations, but most just toggle it off. So, I can be reasonably safe and say, there WILL be walking in this game. :) Congrats....
Not sure about "Power Walking" though..... ;)

LIES!! I am presently playing the game and they still haven't implemented a toggle for walking. The closest thing you can get is to auto-follow some fool NPC who is already walking. And it still looks wierd. :D

:o "I whole heartedly agree! A walking option NEEDS to be in any self-respecting RPG. You could adjust it with a simple roll of the scroll wheel on your mouse. Or with that little toy X-Box controller's analogue stick."
 "You could even make it a part of the game, for example: a power where you gain limited invulnerability, and crushing/bludgeon damage bonuses, but you are forced to walk. Well, stomp really, in a slow, Hulk-like, manner. Have context sensitive animations where, when the power is active, and you walk into a group you will not only create foot prints in the snow/grass/pavement, but you will also shove anyone in your way tumbling back like rag-dolls (unless you encounter another Goliath, but then you would still push his face to the ground with the appropriate *THUD!*."
 "Walking is important and just plain fun."

Okay, I may be mis-remembering. :D
Let's hope it makes it into the game; with the XBox analog controller, I can see it being in. The farther you push it forward, the more you run. The lightly pushed, you walk. :) Like alot of games for PS2, PS#, 360, etc. :)

C'mon following a walking NPC works perfectly fine. Don't you like standing still... and then sprinting into the back of the person you are following... then standing still... then running up slow close you are practically trying to slip into their suit jacket with them... then standnig still... etc.
It would be nice to be able to actually walk. Especially if you have the option to actually try and be sneaky / stealthy in missions. Somehow, when slipping quietly through the shadows, I just don't picture people doing it at a full on sprint.
