Hi, I searched a bit a couldn't find an answer. Does anyone know if CO for the PC will have voice chat built into the game (X360 is a given)? Or will we have to use 3rd-party software, like Teamspeak or Ventrilo? If it is built-in, will we have options to create and switch channels (local, group, guild, etc)?

Thanks!

Nope. Players are left to decide on how to handle voice chat, whether it be Vent or TS, etc.

I'm fine with no Voice Chat in game, WoW came out with it after a while but NO ONE used it. Vent > Anything else anyway.

Has been stated in a Q&A - you will need a third party software for voice chat. Whether this is added later to assure Xbox players get it built in, though, is up in the air.

I perfer using vent over an in game chat system for several reasons. The main reason is that with Vent you can have a larger amount of people in a "chat" room than an in game voice system. ALso I have use in game voice chat in Dungeon and Dragons Online and LOTRO and the problem I have with them is that you are only able to chat in voice with the people in your party/group. If for say you need advice from a higher level on a quest or something with Vent they can pop into your vent channel and answer your question and than pop out not causing you any XP penalties or whatever. Also say like your have friends playing the game but they are doing a quest and you need to do some crafting or whatever you can still chat with them using Vent without being in their party thus not taking up a spot someone can use.

So for me it doesn't matter if they include an in game voice chat since I will be using Vent anyways.

Personally I'm glad it wont have voice chat because I have bad hearing, but one thing I hope it does have is a quick chat menu.

Mainly FPS games have this, but other genres have used it as well. A quick chat menu where you press a single button which brings up a command menu, then another button selects a menu from the list, then another selects the command you wish to use inside that selected menu.

So say V bring up the chat menu.
Q is Tactics, W is Responses, E is Questions, etc.
Then in each of the Tactics/Responses/Questions tabs, there's more options.
So for Tactics it could be... Q = Assist Me, W = I need a heal!, E = Taunt! etc

By pressing V, Q, Q the player would be able to tell their team "Assist Me" in 3 quick key strokes.

I've been hoping that MMO's would bring that into usage for a while now, rather than you having to type a /command or make a /macro for each command. It would simplify things and make it quicker and easier to communicate with your team :)

I agree with djshef.. Bill said there won't be integrated voice chat. He said you will need to use a third party software.
