I've just signed up on champions beta, and I just wondered if I have to do something more to have a chance to get a beta key, or if I just have to sit and hope to get one.

I just have to sit and hope to get one.

When is the release date? I heard 3 months (July) and the whole things free.

I think July is right, but I doubt it's gonna be free, there will probably be a monthly fee.

I'll bet you my left <insert appendage here> that it'll cost $15 a month.

$14.99 a month sounds right, and along with the initial $49.99 for game purchase, or whatever. It won't be free lol.
As for release date, 14th of July.

As for joining beta, a little birdy told me they will be inviting a lot more players soon, and if you don't get that invite, you'll fall under the next wave - called "Open Beta".. :)

If it is free, it won't really be free.
They would include a whole lot of little microtransactions, like the other "free" MMOs do. Sure, you can play for free to level 40. Or pay us a few bucks and be able to get to 50.
And you have access to a bunch of costume pieces. Or you can pay a couple of bucks and add one of several more pieces.
And there are several powers for you to choose from as well. But if you pay some $$$, you may just find one (of possibly several) more framework's worth of powers available.

Either that or it would just sit stagnant for however long it lasted, since monthly fees pretty much go to cover maintenance and upgrades.

No thanks. That money adds up if you don't watch it, and those "free" games can cost more than a game with a monthly fee. Give me monthly fees with long-term plans (money in Cryptic's hands now is better than money that may be in their hands next month), and maybe family plans (or you could call them "people that like to play on two or more computers at once" plans), and I'm plenty good.
