Massively Hands-on: The first five levels of Champions Online (http://www.massively.com/2009/05/04/massively-hands-on-the-first-five-levels-of-champions-online/)
At this point you should be level five, and you get to pick three things: a new power, a super stat and your travel power. Yep, that's right, you get your travel power at the end of Champions Online's tutorial. Currently the [travel] powers are:
Flight
Super Speed
Super Jump
Teleportation
Jet Boots
Swinging
Acrobatics
Ice Slide
Burrowing
I have a feeling some of you haven't heard of Jet Boots, and most likely many haven't heard of burrowing. I tried every power except Acrobatics, Super Speed, Swinging, and Super Jump, but I can give a description for the rest.
Travel powers are automatically binded to your 'T' key, which is actually quite nice. Jet Boots is very cool, and will please many an Iron Man fan -- myself included -- right down to the hands and feet pointing forward to stop animation.
For Jet Boots, you'll hold 'T' to charge up your bar. You'll need to fill the bar entirely to both power up and power down your boots. The benefit of the Jet Boots over flight or Ice Slide is that they've got really high top speed, but it requires you to tap the 'T' key. Think of it like the gears of a transmission, at the initial setting you hover around slowly, higher and you move and a pretty good clip, while maximum has you shooting across the landscape.
Flight can be tapped without a charge, but if you do that you'll start slow and after moving without taking any damage will build up to top speed. Charge your bar up all the way and you start out with kind of sonic boom -- it's pretty wicked. I'll note here that all the several wing options in character creation animate with flight.
Ice Slide builds up to top speed faster, but it's movement is, well, slippery. So it more or less lives up to its name. Oh and the ice block and effects can all be colored. Same goes for Flight and Jet Boots.
Teleport is really awesome in this game, as it works on a charge system. When activated, your world goes all Frodo-wearing-the-one-ring and you turn into a wisp on the screen. While like this, you can move super fast through the world and are invisible to everyone else. The downside is that your ranged is limited, and you want to get a full charge for the furthest possible movement. So while useful for escaping from battle in the blink of an eye, you may not get as far as you'd like.
Burrowing is really cool, with your character diving into the ground and wriggling about until they're fully submerged in the earth. You can't burrow underneath things like buildings and rocks, but you can burrow up very steel hills. The power is also rather fast, so it's quite great for moving across the vast distances of the Canada and Desert zones in the beta. I'm really very happy you get your travel power at level five, traversing the massive zones without it would be a painstakingly long ordeal

It's to my understanding that Acrobatics is somthing like a combination of Super Speed and Super Jump with fancy flips and things mixed in.
Here's a Marital Artist using it while fighting a robot dinosaur (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thjoUP0CCdk)
La Bomba uses it here to sprint around (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/45315.html?type=flv)

I just hope that when teleporters slip into "the other place" they are able to move up and down. Would really suck if we were bound to the lay of the land. Personally untill I see it in action myself I'm more a fan of the point and click teleportation of CoX. After binding it to a side mouse key it was pretty easy to move around with.

Wow the travel powers sound like a lot more fun then they were in CoH. So with teleport I wonder while your in your "alternate dimension" like thing if your movement is limited to just that of super speed. Like could you just move through buildings or fly, or are you just running fast while in this little time shift.

Flight has a "Sonic boom" effect...? O.O
That tears it...this game will be awesome.

Amazing find, this was a great read. Looking forward to hearing about the rest. I wasn't planning on it before... but i might just have to make a character for each travel power. Sounds like they'll all be pretty phenomenal and fun to use, as opposed to CoX where the travel powers weren't exactly "Fun" but a faster way to get around.
These travel powers seem to encourage having powers that fit your characters description.
FUN FUN FUN! AGH! i cannot wait any longer... I'm going to chryogenically freeze myself.
The travel powers, from what I've been seeing/hearing, seem to actually involve realistic physics, at least, for an MMO. The swinging video is a great example, it appeared that he was swinging from actual buildings, almost like the video game for the Spider Man 2 movie. I think I'll find myself traveling about just to play with the new travel powers.

Can anyone say "combat blinking"?

My personal interpretation is full 3D movement, but you can't go through buildings. So to get to a lower floor you'd have to take the stairs/elevator shaft real fast. I also bet you'll move a lot faster in the "alternate dimension" than any other travel power can move in the real dimension, to make up for the start/stop nature of teleport. However it works I think it's pretty sweet.

I haven't seen any vid of burrowing yet, but I think you just plunge into the earth and see some sort of lifted ground where your character is, possiibly leaving a trace of cracked surface. I don't think you're view will be fully submerged, I think it's still helicopter view. That's my guess.

Ah, but how will it work when you try to swing across the desert? Will your swing lines attach to the sky?

I imagine it's sort of equivelent to Swift+Hurdle+Combat Jumping in CoX, but all rolled into one power and with fancier animations.

Pretty sure that to keep swinging a balanced travel power your lines don't actually need to attach to anything. I remember when the swinging trailer was released a couple of weeks back and everyone was complaining how the lines weren't attaching to anything alot of the time...
I guess having the lines attached would of course look better, but then you wouldn't be able to use the swinging power in places where there is nothing to cling to, so for balance reasons I assume the lines won't attach to anything.

We need more posts like this one. Awsome info!
It looks like I will have an army of alts as I try to find my favorite powers. The travel powers alone have some many possibilities. I'm imagining some skinny guy in a suit suddenly burrowing underground :)

Parachutes expand at the end of the line. (Dunno, make something up. Spiderman used to swing from nothing too. XD)

Well I will play only ranged heros (due to bad ping) and won't take flight or any traveling power that enables me to stay out of range. I guess this might kill the fun for me if I can just fly up in the air and nuke the enemy. I guess I go acrobatics. Looks awesome!

I've read in interviews that everyone has a way to deal with people who try to do that. For example, one of the larger bosses has a static field that does damage to you the faster you go or has a giant laser to shoot you out of the sky.

First off thank you for the run down. It's nice to see you get to fly right out the tutorial it seems. I'm glad they have a good amount to choose from, but the chance to give off a sonic boom might just be to tempting for me to refuse.

I would imagine super speed at least and probably the jet boots too would also have a similar effect.

Being a long time player of COX I always hated that being limited with a certain amout of power slots we are forced to use at least one other to get a travel power. (unless you have an Epic toon).
These seem like a great choice of travel powers as well, Although I won't be able to make a "villian" yet, still doesn't mean I can't look like one and being able to color travel powers as well will make it just that easier. ;)

Even the lowest level goon will have ranged abilities (guns) so flying won't save you.
So only one travel power per character?

I can see some people complaining about the opposite of that, since this game apparently forces you to take a travel power. Personally I think that's a better way to go; people with no travel powers always annoyed me in CoH when the team ended up waiting ages for them to get to the mission.
Not as annoying as the people who take all four travel powers though. Glad that's not possible in this game either from what I've heard.

Awesome sounding travel powers! MMORPG players spend more time traveling than in combat and the superhero genre is probably the only one where travel can be fun. Nice to see Crypitc is capitalizing on that!
Ah, but how will it work when you try to swing across the desert? Will your swing lines attach to the sky?
Does anyone remember that ancient Spiderman cartoon that must have been from the 60s or early 70s where they always just showed Spidey web-swinging across open sky? This kind of reminds me of that lol
I don't actually think I'll mind seeing people swinging through open sky but it will be interesting to see if Crypitc has some way to explain it.

I'm excited to see how these powers will work in combat. If I read correctly, the mroe you charge teleport, the further you can go. So if you're fighting some baddies and you just tap it, you could end up behind them in the blink of an eye? That would be awesome. A nice ode to a certain blue X-Man's fighting style. ^^

I don't think they are planning on releasing a villain version. But there are always anti-heroes think spawn and deadpool. Just cause you are a hero does not mean ya asked to be.

Yech... no silly... they will attach to African swallows... could be European but I think it will be African.

I would think it would something similar to how "Hank McCoy" (The Beast) in X-Men. I could be wrong but that would be my first impression.

You never got it, didn't you?
Spider-Man's webs always clinged on the the picture frame. The lines in CO will just as tightly cling on to the frame of your screen, if nothing else is at hand. :)

so teleporting isnt teleporting as such?
its more of phase shifting and moving at high speeds, meanwhile looking like a wisp?
phaseshifting or turning etheral
