...I'm sort of burnt out on the carrot on the stick, boring gameplay of most MMOs. Can anyone tell me how CO is different? I really want a good, challenging and fun MMO, and I'd be happy if this is the one.

But how is it different?

The problem with most MMOs is that mob AI is stupid and there's no challenge, and no innovation. Every MMO I've played (and I've played a lot) has started off with "kill 10 X". The 10 "X" is just roaming around stupidly waiting to be easily murdered. Please tell me this is different. Please.

Try checking out Nexus' faq post. It can be found at the top of the newbie forum. Also Massively just released a ton of info from a media weekend preview.

For me the most exciting part is the level of customization. You will be able to customize just about everything from your costume to the color of the powers you use. I love looking unique and most of the newer mmos don't deliver that in my opinion.

I personally am not really sure about mob AI, but you will have the option of creating a personal nemesis at level 30 for your hero to battle. From what I understand this will range from random ambushes to missions involving your nemesis. Also the same level of customization will exist for your nemesis as it does for your hero.

Maybe MMOs aren't for you. I'm sure this game will have some innovative ideas and missions but there are really only so many ways to implement missions.

Sounds like you are more a fan of single player games. And asI think about this, maybe its more about RPGs than anything else. Maybe you are more of an action junkie that a RPer which is the basis for most MMOs. If you don't really care this is a Super Hero game vs a Fantasy game then you will probaly be disappointed at some point.

Not saying you shouldn't read up on this game or not try it, just be open to re-evaluating what you want from a game. Find what makes you happy and then look for a game that provides that. If you spend a lot of time soloing, then for example maybe the MMO part isn't important. Or check out Fallen Earth which is a MMO RPG/FPS crossbreed. Action with the mutiplayer you may want. There is a ton of info on the site's forums. Just add .com for the main site. They are in closed beta, but taking apps still.

it's a mmoag. Massive Mulitplayer Online Action Game, with rpg elements. MMO isn't restricted to just rpg. it stands for Massive Multiplayer Online.

Differences are obvious amongst popular (and undergound) mmoRPGs.

If you're playing wow, that's not an action game its your traditional rpg

If your playing gunz:the duel, that's more of a mmo deathmatch game.

If your playing ACE online (now renamed to some other title can't remember right now) that's a mmo Flight Sim

every game that's being released that's an mmo, is becoming different to stand out among what people of the mmorpgs out there is getting tired of. (I personally blame wow).

So... i state, if you like action games with indepth gameplay and large learning curves, like the guy above me so rudely stated, you should stick to console action games.

And like syndica stated too, maybe you should check out nexus faq, it seems more of a manual then anything else i've seen. it's really good info if you really want to see if this is a title you can get into.

Also it's a super hero themed mmo. there's only 2 that I kno of that's already out (which i think everybody does by now, called City of Heroes and City of Villans). Now there's 2 more being released, so it's still very different from what you're used to.

You may be particularly interested in this nugget I copied from Nexus' faq.
The plan is to allow for people to advance through the game via PvP, PvE, or a combination of the two. Whichever option most floats a player's boat.
Don't like going out and beating up random monsters? Level up by beating up your fellow players!

Actually its a MMORPG with action game elements. It's a rpg because it's focused more so on the development of your character and the setting than it is on how you go about beating people up. The beating people up part has more emphasis than normal, however.

If boring AI is your main issue your problem is not MMO's, it is pve. What you need to be doing is looking into pvp on MMO's challenge yourself vs. other players. But warning: players hit back, so if ya can't deal with losing I would not recommend even trying.

Now see I am starting to think you are just wanting people to bust your chops so you can get a emo like buzz outta the whole world just doesn't understand you. Or is more of the I am right and so they hate me kind of thing?

I said Maybe MMO's aren't for him. Sure there are other kinds which you quite helpfully pointed out. But most games with an RPG element have quests, and there are only so many types of quests out there. Kill X, Fetch/deliver etc. I was just suggesting that since he didn't like "dumb" AIs maybe a more FPS type game would work. I even suggested Fallen Earth since it is a MMOFPSRPG which would avoid some of the static game play he seemed to not enjoy.

If you don't like what I post, then either ignore it or point blank tell me so.
