Hi, i was reading the info on the main website, and i'm personally a player who likes to live on the evil side of the game, and all i read about was how players will be 'battling against evil' and 'vanquishing evil'

And i was wondering, is this game geared towards playing characters that have a heroic morality? From the videos and screenshots i've seen, this game is shaping up to be excellent, and if it is, i will switch from playing city of villains as i do currently, to this game.

I was really sold on the customising force fields/fire/colours of your powers thing, and i think improving on the awesome customisation could put this game up there with CoX in being the most customisable game in existence.

So yeah, my basic question is; is there any place for evil players in this game?

Not as this point in time. The only evil currently is your nemesis, which you can play for limited time in the game.

Oh right. I'll still check the game out. I can pretend i'm a villain being heric to serve my own needs

Yeah, and you'll be able to make some pretty sinister looking "heroes" as well.

There are "evil" type powers. For example the Darkness power framework has lots of powers that some might call evil. Im sure you can find something in there or elsewhere to fit your needs.

Or you can just PvP against some of our champions and laugh menacingly the whole time.

The case could be made that Munitions may be a villainous framework.
After all, the Punisher uses rifles, pistols, grenades and what not and is, by and large, regarded as a criminal or, at best, a vigilante by most heroes in the Marvel Universe.
Hopefully, a villain oprtion will be offered later as a supplement.

i played plenty of evil characters in coh before cov came out. basically i just roleplayed it. one of my guys had his whole henchman army killed by rikti so he was ****ed and wanted to kill all the rikti so i guess it is just your roleplaying style, just roleplay it and i dont see the problem. or just pvp against other heroes and stuff. if your looking to have a storyline that says your evil and you like to kick babies or something no that wont be in but when i played evil characters i just substituted evil words for the good words when talkign to npcs and stuff that told me what a great(evil) person i was.

Yeah, villains were something they were going to add later on I think. Though if I remember rightly they did say the game was being built with such things in mind. Not like CoH where villains are basically heroes with a red interface and a few words changed around, since that game was never built to have playable villains at all.

I don't really understand how you can do PvP without villians. So what, are good guys beating each other up and they call that PvP? Doesnt make much sense to me if that is the case. No offense, I love the way the game looks. It's just the function that troubles me.

I wish they'd just bite the buillet and like the Nike commerical...Just do it!

Friendly sparring matches, either as practice or to settle a grudge? Not all heroes get along with each other after all. And going by some of the people in CoH/CoV, half of them won't be heroes at all despite what it says on the badge.

As above, the PvP will take place in the arenas around the world, similar to CoH's arena system I'd imagine. (The arena's in Champions Universe originally were all populated by the weaker heroes, who only had a slight edge with reflexes and such.)

Gahh you had me right up to the point of reading this thread. Yes COV's villians save hostages and is really just a masked version of COH.

I joined COH knowing COV was on its way, so yes I have a few very evil looking heroes, I can do the same here.

Learn to play the Anti-Hero, the person that never signed up to be a hero but keeps gettin forced into situations where saving the day furthers his own goals are is unavoidable.

There are heroes and heroes...
Think about Sperman or Cap. America... and now think about Moonknight or Deadpool...

Not including Villains, or not including them from the beginning is going to create big problems for the PvP in this game. It makes Hero vs Hero seem ridiculous, and if they finally do put in villains, the established players and guilds will all be Heroes. Sure some will move, but they will be behind the curve and just like most alts...most will return to their mains. Never mind that most of the good ideas will be used up on the Heroes. Game looks neat, but I can't believe they're going to do things the same way they did in CoH after the horribly unbalanced fiasco that PvP was there.

The reason why they're not releasing a more villainous version of the game is because they want to do it right, and not, like CoV was, a reskinned version of the heroic game.

At least, that's what I got from Roper.

seeing as heroes in comics fight other heroes almost as often as they fight villains, it makes perfect sense.
how many times has the hulk fought spiderman, or wolverine, or thor? Heck, punisher was introduced trying to kill spidy, and when spidy and the FF first met, they fought. X-men and avengers have fought a few times. Heroes fight one another all the time.

not to mention duels, sparring, scenarios or friendly competition.
PVP will make plenty of sense.

just because fighting villains is more natural in PVP doesn't mean that it's the only thing that will be fun, or make sense.

Personally, I think that Cryptic has done a pretty good job at justifying their PvP instances for CO. Sure, everyone is a bit hesitant about arena combat, yet those apocalyptic pvp scenarios sound really neat. And in response to your comment about there only being Heroes when (and if) the villain expansion releases...well obviously, how can you expect there to be villains if the villain section of the CO universe hadn't even been released yet? However, an expansion like this would not simply "come out of the blue" and players would surely have months of warning in advance. Because of this, players could easily begin designing their villains and evil supergroups early, planning for approaching mayhem. I have a strange feeling that when (and if) this expansion comes around CO will start seeing many "antiheroes" around Millennium City, just waiting to switch to the other side of the law.
