CoH preorders has a different 'effect' when you used the sprint power. The look varied depending on who you ordered it from. I hardly consider that either 'cool' or 'stuff'. It was a very minor ability I never saw anyone use again a couple months after release.
I'd put this bonus item in the same catagory as above.

well im sure there will be other stuff in the preorder once we get closer to launch, but maybe not, personally id rather get a early invite to the game or get into the beta with a preorder but oh well, i was gonna get game either way.

I guess its more than amazon.co.uk are giving with their pre-order where you get the amazing 'Nothing' with your pre-order.
Then again in the end its the game that matters.

ACtually I used the alternate sprints on all my toons. I did enter the game late and got them all for free, but I did use them to further customize my toons looks.

Maybe it would be like LittleBigPlanet and have a special item with each different place you preorder. :)

I don't think it's a particularly poor choice for a pre-order bonus, but it doesn't appeal to me much. I've never really been a bug fan :) I'm hoping the different pre-order places have different bonuses as well.
Heck, put it up for pre-order on Steam, and I'll order it today.

Personally I'd rather they didn't give too much to those who preorder, so that the difference isn't too great between people who did and didn't. That and some way of obtaining them later without having to buy a code off someone would be nice, like in CoH how you got the preorder sprints through veteran rewards.

Then why even both pre-ordering. We have to get something special. Preorder fall out 3. Get special dvd. Pre order prince of persia, get special in game character. pre order metal gear solid 4, got something lol. Pre orders are to ensure the number of sales, as well as let companies know if their game is exciting the public ahead of time. In order to get the numbers, they gotta give you something special for doing it. Sort of like, if you do this survey you get a dollar, type deals.

Yeah, that is on the lacking side. You only get to use it if you have a character with fly and that has a bug theme.
That doesnt appear to me. At least with the coh preorder it was a travel power sprint thingy which didnt have to be a certain themed toon... but still could be aswell. :)

I'm pretty sure you could use it on a character without flight, just like you can with wings in CoH. It just doesn't animate if you can't fly, plus it doesn't make much sense for a non-flying character to have wings.

I thought you got the neat stuff form CoX's collector's edition? I know for villains you got pre-order arachnos helmets and early launch keys

I was a prestige power sliding fool. I loved that power. :)
But anyway, yeah. Special bug wings from Gamestop. I am waiting to see what other offers may appear. I don't feel particularly inclined to make a bug guy anytime soon, and if I do and don't have those wings, I am sure there will be another set that will work for me.

Then why even both pre-ordering.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Cryptic is big enough you will be most likely able to just walk in and pick up the game somewhere. If not from a game retailer, I bet you could find one at a non traditional game store. I.E. Walmart, fred Myers, Best buy etc. Pre-ordering only matters on niche titles that you know will only be in short supply. Like back when Altus brought over the first Disgaea.
