I don't know if anyone here is at all interested in Cryptics other mmo in development, however they are currently offering a future in-game title to people who log into the Star Trek Online forums before May 22nd. You most likely already have an account here, and since its Cryptic both ways it works there as well.

On one hand they have recast Kirk as someone besides The Shatner, on the other they have Simon Pegg as Scotty. I don't know whether to avoid it like the plague because of the former or go see it because of latter as I am a Simon Pegg fan (Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead rocked).

Also the new movie has would be an odd numbered Star Trek movie, and generally odd numbered Star Trek movies are not as good as the even numbered Star Trek movies.

I saw it last night and it was amazing. They did everything right. There were points where I thought the young Kirk was a little too cocky but other than that the entire movie was pure win. There were tons of Star Trek references thrown in there, right down to the obligatory guy in a red shirt getting killed. (I won't say how but its hilarious). Leonard Nemoy is awesome as always and has way more than a simple cameo and Simon Pegg is great as well. This has breathed new life into an aging franchise, and the new young cast ensures that there will be more movies to come.

The actors didn't try to reinvent anything and they played the quirks of the original actors perfectly from line delivery right down to movements and mannerisms. If you love the Star Trek series its a must see. I think the last movie broke the odd-number curse as it was so incredibly bad.

I for one eagerly anticipate following the adventures of this next first generation. :D

I love Star Trek but I tend to dislike a lot of the Star Trek fans. They do take it way to seriously which is why I avoid that forum. It was a great series of TV shows, and a couple of good movies (and couple of bad ones too:)). Nothing else.

I'll play the game when it come out, but I will not join in on the rabid fanboys whinning about how it does not meet to their expections of the "true lore" whatever hell that is. Fanboys can ruin that game's community, and super Trekkie Fanboys are the worst. I cringe when i think about playing on the RP server there, and I like to RP. :)

I got my Envoy title for logging in, but how do you know if you got it?... hehe :)

Don't be afraid of the Star Trek people. That's where I came from. We arent all a bunch of unbathed annoying people that you may think. We even wear deodorant sometimes :p

It is true though. Some of the people can sure be passionate about their beliefs and will beable to tell you how many pounds of red carpet are on what ship but most of the people are down to earth. Do not be afraid.

STO members should probably establish fleet membership since they'll need to test it, and it seems like the game will be somewhat fleet oriented. Just an idea. So far we have more leaders than followers, and nobody to join my fleet :D

My ship shall be named the USS Duct Tape and Failed Dreams and the Captain shall be referred to as 'Skipper' and the number 2 shall be referred to as 'Sparky' or 'Bubba'.

Also, all crew members will have training in how to use a M1911 .45 Colt pistol and a supply of such weapons and ammo shall be kept on board for the inevitable time when we reach a planet whose plot device is that something screws with our phasers; because in those situations you inevitably meet something you really, really wanted to shoot.

(and id like to use federation tech to do it.)

the pvpers will have a starbase. with the zone declared a playnice zone. playnice only for pvp flagged people. the zone will be called "the sandbox". the base will be called "the uss HAXOR".
