I remember reading that Champions Online uses the original Marvel MMO engine, does anyone have the official story of how this came about, who was the original creator's of the marvel MMO and how did cryptic get the engine so quick after the marvel MMO was cancelled.
Hope i can get some clarification.

Cryptic was working on it for Marvel and that deal feel through. They then conacted HERO Games/DOJ and worked out an agreement to use the Champions setting for thier MMO. Same system, same developers, different setting. Hope that helps.

Cryptic developed their second generation game engine for Marvel Universe Online. That means that they where paid alot of money by Microsoft to do the game engine development and design. They own the engine so when Microsoft pulled the plug on MUO they kept it.
One of the reasons that Microsoft went to Cryptic to do the game development was that they had the second generation engine in development already and had produced a successful Superhero MMO. All Microsoft and Marvel brought to Cryptic was the Marvel IP and well direction from Microsoft and Marvel on what they wanted the end product to be like. So the engine that was designed remained when Microsoft pulled the plug.
Edit: Oh and they brought alot of money to Cryptic as well.
Isn't CO coming for the 360? Maybe it's their payback haha!

The engine was already designed to work on the 360, so there would be no reason to no continue developing for it. Unless they dont like money. Would have liked to see then switch to the Playstation 3 to really stick it to em, but thats just not realistic, considering how far they are along in develepment.

My thoughts too. There are some very good code resources available for programming for XBox360 and DirectX ( 9 or 10... I think... maybe just 10) so, in essence, building to that standard means that you don't have as many additional "porting" costs... compared to the PS3 or other consoles.

As others have said, the basic way they got the code so quickly is that it was their code. Always has been and always will be, unelss of course they sell it on in 5 years or so like they've now done with CoX :-p
Basicly, this is the same game they were working on for Marvel, only it won't have Marvel storylines or characters. they are probably still only in the engine/mechanics stage at the moment as opposed to designing story anyway, so I doubt it's had much impact on development at all. Just a new name and new IP to release it under.

That's the beauty of it, MS basically funded the engine and now we get to enjoy the benefits in a wholly Cryptic ownded game.

...does anyone have the official story of how this came about, who was the original creator...
You see Nuzor, when a mommy comic company and a daddy MMO company love each other very much, they form what's know as a lucrative deal. But then the mommy comic company gets a headache six out of the seven days of the week, so the daddy MMO company starts calling all those PnP companies he fell in love with when he was a younger start up. Since the daddy MMO company did all the actual work in the relationship, he decides it's time to move on... A couple years later, a new MMO is born! And the mommy comic company is still milking the five or six really popular licences it has on a street corner, to anyone who can pay the insane licensing fees.
Hope that helps!

Midwife? Doctor? Lamaze Class Teacher? Something useful, but inherently ancillary.
