I wonder how far the 'secret identity' factor will be taken, could we play our Clarke Kent/Bruce Wayne selves for part of the game, risking revealing ourselves to our arch-nemisis, or if its just going to be a toggle option at character creation. Personally I would love to have the dual aspect of the game so we could actually play as our secrect identities, seems it would add a nice level of complexity to the game, when to chaneg into our super selves, runnign from bad guys instead of mopping the floor with them, having to rescue ourselves from our arch-villans without revealing that we're actually the hero/anit-hero, we could worry about having regualr folks seeing us use our powers and ratting us out, build up influence with contacts so they could know our secret, again added risk the arch-villain would target them instead to get info...it would be a blast

Sign me up for this. At the very least we definitly need an ability for our Green Goblin to go after our Mary Jane. (or Aunt May) It gives a much stronger feel and would make great rp.

It would be great if your secret identities were where your crafting duties would take place. Or how you made money, or gained some sort of benefit towards your superpowered career other than just being something asthetically pleasant.

it would be great if we could have non-combat skills that we could use as our mild-mannered selves to actually do things other than thump on teh bad guys ad-nauseum, having a crafting system so you could play a gadgeteer/gizmo based hereo would be awsome, it could also help explain how we can aford superbases, vehicles(please?) homes etc. cause everyone knows being a hero doesnt pay the bills, put the kids through college.

I envision a few Peter Parker type ideals, Take pictures of myself for money!

I lean a little more towards the tony stark ideal (Drunk industrialist) but hey, thats me

THe only issue i see with it is what about alien/monstrous characters, who (in rpg elemts) would naturally be big mosterous things... would you HAVE to have a secret identity?

But, consider this: Superman, Spiderman, and/or Batman were rarities that far from the "norm". Unlike Milliennium City, which will be flurrishing with superheros of both male and female (and eve possibly other species). From the looks of it, "loved ones", the ones that secret identities are used to protect, will most likely be Superheroes themselves, so the S.I.s would be pointless.

From what I understand, the secret identity is completely up to you to keep. Some characters might opt out of it if they are alien creatures or whatever, or maybe say you decide to be a monster creature who must try to stay in human form for the sake of keeping his abilities secret (ex: hulk). Or if you look at Defender's profile, it says he's completely open about himself being defender. I think the system will hopefully be pretty thought out if its one of their "bullet points" for game features, and have a wide variety of options.

Secret identities are optional accordong to comic book lore, and by cryptic. It would be really nice if it was more than just a toggle for yes or no though, it is a great tool for gameplay and storylines. Sure you could be open about your identity, do your own stunts in your tv show/movie, or you could try and hide the fact and work on developing 2 characters out of a single character.

Unfortunately I can't find where I read it, so I can't provide a link at the moment, but I'm sure I read either on the forums or the front page that your secret ID would make different contacts and missions availible to you. Pressumably a hero with no ID would get approached directly by the police, government, etc, while somebody with an ID would need to approach shady informers or listen to the police band. Perhaps if you have a secret ID one of the missions will be rescuing a loved one from your nemesis?

I like the Idea of a secret identity, but I don't want it taken too far. Being able to look like my alter-ego whenever I want is cool, but not too sure if I want it taken to the point where I have to use my alter-ego to do stuff just to support myself cuz being a hero doesn't pay the bills... in fact I'd rather not have bills in a videogame.

I just don't want a game based on heroes to get too much like real life cuz the reason I spend so much time on CoX is cuz virtual life is different... so please don't make it similar. Or at least give me the option of having an alter-ego or not having one.

Basically a cool Idea that could be used in a cool way to give u fun stuff to do that could help u as ur hero personality, but I'm pretty concerned about how it could affect gameplay if it's not implemented right. I don't want it to take away from the reason I'm playing the game... which is to not be just a normal guy.

A robust secret id system would be great, especially if it allowed you to enhance the super hero play. I don't want to be required to go to work and play through the head ache of being a normal person who has a huge secret, but I do want to have the choice to do that every now and then especially if it helps on my mission to flush out the zombie mind control plot at the local newspaper.

the secret identity is an option they are including in teh game..at least for now. the article didnt say it was manditory. I was just hoping it would be more than the toggle for yes or no though.
