Will it be back? Come on Cryptic, you know what I'm talking about.

Ok, to start what I LOVED most about the original design concept of Coh back in Prebeta was this quasiconcept known as the Fame System. Really it was just a glorified faction system that most mmo's have but it never happened in the actual game. This is all working form memory mind you, but think of it as a personal "advancement" wishlist independent from XP.

1) Patrols
I never liked that Coh became entirely mission based. We have these awsome things called City and Hazard Zones yet the result is they are never used. Its a beautifully constructed world yet absolutely no reason to clean up the streets and explore outside of the minnial badge. Give us a real reason and reward than just a simple thank you. A REAL hero should not ignore everything on the way from door to door.

2) Clues
I always thought it would be cool if when you saved random NPCs off the streets they gave you clues. Then these clues could be turned in for missions. Think Safeguard Missions, but they would lead into actual story arcs, chance encounters, random missions, or a showdown with your nemisis. Of course, they should be timed so you have reason to follow any hot lead.

3) Renown
Citzens should no who you are and villains should tremble in your sight, litterally. Thats whats being a hero is all about. People want to be us and villains never want to mess with us. If a Hero focuses on a particular area, then those people should know him better: call out on the street, easier to get tips and favors, you name it. Focus on a villian group and they should begin to hate you: penalties for them in combat and plotting sneak attacks.

All this really is is a faction bar, shouldn't be that hard this time around.
I really really missed not being able to interact with the World and just labeled Hero XYZ.
So thoughts from the community?

This may have been hinted at. The Game informer article states different missions will be availible base on have a secret identity vs being public.

It would really be nice to have some reason or benefit to actually stopping street-level crime other then pure exp-grinding or 'defeat X of Y' missions. Actually having a reason to patrol neighborhoods as the friendly neighborhood superhero would be a nice change.

I would love to have missions start up in ways that were different from CoX's way of basically being your contacts hired thug. While I loved the stories and some of the arcs the contacts had centered around them, by and large you were like some strange temporary employee working your way up the business food chain. It didn't really feel that heroic.

This would be a nice touch. In CoX about the only way that the civilians ever interacted with you is that if you completed a mission in a zone, and were still in the zone, the NPCs there might mention some blurb about you being seen beating up someone, etc. Actually have NPCs call out to you, thanking or cheering for you as you fly by, or having villains target you as a priority because you have a record of fighting against them, either of those would be a nice bit of additional immersion into the environment.

All this really is is a faction bar, shouldn't be that hard this time around.

I saw it mentioned somewhere official (is late and my wakefulness is drifting away) that there are going to be factions you could join, and that would open up access to additional stores / content. Not sure if that is entirely what you mean by 'faction bar' but it looks like something is on the way.

If I'm remembering correctly, was there a comic about that? There was a woman getting mugged *purse snatched* and heroes kept running by and ignoring her please for help and kept saying "sorry lady, they are gray cons" or something like that. I thought it was pretty funny while I was playing CoH and in those pre-beta days I was thinking about what areas of the city I was going to call my turf and patrol on. I think it could be a neat little system and fun and make for some really great "feeling like a comic book hero" moments. Not every encounter is a world changing event, sometimes it's breaking up a gang fight or saving that lady from getting mugged even though those mobs are 30 levels below you.

PVP Online (http://www.pvponline.com/2004/06/13/june-13-2004/) is what I think you are thinking of. They did several weeks of CoH related strips back in June of 2004. That one I linked to is I think the one in particular that you are thinking of.
