Default Lets be realistic here...

Yes, this is technically a Beta. But it's also a soft launch. I guarantee you that "soft launch" is something that has been said in Cryptic Headquarters leading up to today.

The number of people attempting to play right now that did not shell out cash for that luxury is a very limited few. Most of us paid anywhere from $5 to full retail price of this game to attempt to be here today. The moment we laid down cash for access to the beta, this became a "pay to play" scenario. A "pay to play" scenario has a higher threshold of minimum expectations than a free one. I would say a bare minimum, even for a "free to play" scenario would be a patcher that puts the files in the right place. Anyone that has experienced a few mmo launches know that they can be interesting at best, and kill a game at worst. Anarchy Online ring any bells?

The only thing Cryptic did wrong was make us pay for this frustration. Anything that happens after the NDA drops, can have a HUGE impact on a game. The NDA dropped right as this fiasco hit us. That is extremely bad for Cryptic. The first things people are allowed to say publically about this game will be today's clusterfrakk.

Which is unfortunate. I'd like to follow that up with "this game has a lot pf potential" but I can't know that, can I? I'd like say "it's worth that wait guys, just hang in there", I really would. Notice we haven't seen that thread from all the people flaming the frutrated folks. No, no words of reason, just flaming, which I'm sure will hit me hard in this thread as well...

You didn't pay for ****. You pre-ordered a game that won't be out for 2 more weeks and you were given the opportunity to help participate in the final phase of pre-launch testing.

Us not being able to log in, or access the patcher properly is what we're agreeing to do when we agree to TEST a product.

IF, and ONLY IF, the launch is this catastrophic can anyone who paid money dare complain. Until then, you are privileged to offer your assistance in assisting the devs in testing and being a part of the early community. Cryptic doesn't owe you ****.

PS: This isn't "technically" a beta. It *IS* the beta.

Wrong. I paid for a pre-ordered copy that INCLUDED access to Open Beta. Others paid for file planet access. Therefore, its paid for either way. So stuff your stupid fanboy crap. Go find someone at cryptic to blow.

How do you think the 'Around the Table' dinner conversation will go tonight for Cryptic employees?

Kalidor, exactly my point, flaiming and cursing. The point you started cursing, I stopped reading. Thanks for playing.

You may have given someone $5, but it wasn't to Cryptic.

You may have paid $5 to Fileplanet to access their server, but it wasn't to Cryptic.

You may have paid $5 to a store to hold a copy of the game for you when it is released, but it wasn't Cryptic.

No matter how many times you insist you've paid for the beta, it doesn't make it true. You've either paid a store to hold a copy of the game for you or a website for access to their servers. You haven't paid a cent for access to beta.

That wasn't your point at all, because you said flaming -- not cursing. I didn't flame you, I just said ****.

Okay, well, pretend like the first **** means "Anything" and the second **** means "Anything", then read my post and actually refute what I said.

What was the problem today?
I got in right at 1:00 edt, played for a few hours...saw way more shards full of people than I ever saw in CB, so I know I wasn't the only one on.

Seemed like a successful "soft launch" to me. I seriously doubt Scorpy2643's sole experience wasn't on the meeting agenda at all today.
