Whoa - there's a numerical limit on these?

That is not stated anywhere on the offer page.

We all knew there was a time limit - but there was never anything to suggest that there was a limited number of these offers available.

So despite saying they would be available until 9/1, if you sold another 1000 in the next 24 hours, you'd pull the lifetime sub entirely early?

The legal definition of what you're talking about is "puffery" and includes claims like; "once in a lifetime opportunity", "like never seen before" etc.

However, claiming something is a "limited offer to X units" when it isn't is false advertisement and is illegal in most of the developed nations to my knowledge.

I keep wanting to get one, but then there was the whole XP fiasco and I have no idea what the curve will be like. I'll be sure to pick up a six month sub as soon as we have some assurance that the XP curve after launch will be the same as in closed beta, because that was perfect.

Eh, on any lifetime sub they make, if the subber actually plays longer then 13 months they'll lose money and big time.

So to prevent this game going bust in exactly 13 months, they need to limit the lifetimes in comparison to the expected normal subs.

Demand seems to be high enough for them to run out of the allotted number before september 1st, something that they might not have anticipated (thus not announce there's actually a limit).

Better announce it upfront then announce it when it closes.

This is good news actually. It means there's a good demand for this game for a longer period of time so we don't have to worry much about an HG:L event.

I'd probably get the lifetime sub (though I also find the "Suddenly, it's Limited Quantity!" a bit dodgy and annoying), but sadly Cryptic's timing on offering these couldn't have been worse for me to begin with. This is convention season; I'm already stretched thin to pay for stuff that was planned a year ago.
