Any use for Eye-Beam?

I'm very happy with my PA build so haven't used my free retcon. My only problem power was Eye-Beam which I had from day one of head start. I haven't got rid of it in the vain hope that they may fix the damn thing, as I love it for conceptual reasons.

However, as I must use my free Retcon by tonight or lose it, the time has come to ditch it.

So, before I abandon it for good, does eye-beam have any use whatsoever that I might be missing? Minigun makes its column attack completely redundant. What use is a negligible energy cost if it stops you using a power that actually does damage?

Is Eye-Beam really working as intended?

Any positive thoughts would be appreciated but I'm not expecting any. Seems a totally pointless power sadly

this was one of those powers that was originally OP. so they "fixed" it. i think it will most likely continue to be "fixed" so don't get excited about it becoming viable again.

i'm sorry to take this OT a bit, but really? the retcon expires today??? i had no idea there was an expiration date. i was planning on waiting til the devs figured out how the game would work before retconning....

At one point in time Eye Beam increased in damage the longer it went. Apart from the energy cost it was a rather balanced power.

However, at some point or another they made it no longer increase, while still firing off the +15% increase to other toggles.

Sorry, I can't give you anything good about the power. I removed it as soon as I could.

None, really. You're not missing anything. It's a terrible power - makes your other PA toggles cost more but fails to do more than tickle a mob. I think I actually worked out at one point that it does less DPS than my unranked energy builder.

Sadly, yes. As sparklepuppy mentioned it got nerfbatted down into oblivion, so we can only assume that the current state is where they want it to be.

Positive thought: it looks cool I had it for a bit on one of my characters for that reason, but ended up ditching it in favor of Sonic Device, which looks cool AND adds nontrivial damage.

It's not so much that it expires as there's another free retcon coming tomorrow, and if you haven't used up the current one by then the new one will just overwrite it, you don't get to have both of 'em queued up.

Ranked up eye beam does ok damage and it is a cheap toggle compared to the others...good for running combos.

As was stated in an earlier patch note, the full free retcons do not expire, but you can only have ONE full free retcon at any given time. So no, they're not expiring, they just won't stack.

Cheers guys, you confirmed my thoughts, sadly.

I thought Eye beam was OP in beta, and in HS when I noticed that it cost nothing to use, I even refrained from using it too often under the assumption that its virtually zero energy use would get 'fixed', and I didn't want to base my play style on an OP power.

If this is working as intended I can't actually think of a single reason why anyone would use it over Minigun, other than for conceptual fluff. I chose the power because it fitted my concept and I love the way it looks, but aesthetics only go so far. As it is, using Eye Beam over Minigun feels like choosing a hammer instead of a wrecking ball to demolish a building.

Damn shame.

I think actually I already lost my first free retcon. Didn't notice that this got posted yesterday. Did the patch get applied this morning or is it coming tonight? Can anyone confirm?

Hmm, this is interesting actually. I had liked it for the burn through aspect, using 20/20 Fission to get the column attack going. But with MG doing a wide column attack immediately and much more effectively, EB seemed useless.

However, as a pure Single Target attack, ranked for damage rather than side-effect advantage, perhaps its worth another look? Certainly in that context it seems like a more attractive power. Question is if its negligible energy usage outways the raw dps of minigun when used in combo with MM, especially when I'd have to sepend two advanatages to get it to a competitive damage output.

Anyone have any figures?

I feel like I'm clutching at straws here. I love the idea and look of Eye Beam, but I'm no masochist

Not too bothered, but would like to swap out eye beam and still get our latest free retcon to bank for later - just in case. I'll check tonight.
